Received Sylff fellowship in 1999-2001.
Earned a Ph.D. in Sociology in spring 2006 and is assistant professor at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. A naturalized Canadian, Egla was born to a Mestizo family in Guatemala. She is committed to research and social action related to women, development, and indigenous peoples in Central America.
Recipient of Sylff Prize Award in 2004.
