Mónica Soares holds an MSc in Justice Psychology from the Faculty of Education and Psychology at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP, 2013) and is currently finishing her Ph.D. at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) in Coimbra. Since 2012, she has been actively involved in several research projects, notably at the Universidade do Minho (School of Psychology & CICP) and at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP). At the latter institution, she serves as an invited professor in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Human Rights and the Master’s Program in Psychology, where she teaches courses on psychology, criminology, and human rights.
As a visiting researcher and/or visiting professor, she has collaborated with the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities (ICSyH, BUAP, Mexico; 2018–2022), the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences at La Plata University (2020), and the Center for Community Studies (CEC, Universidad Marta Abreu de Las Villas, Cuba; 2016–2017).
Her research interests span the social sciences, with a focus on psychology, political science, and criminology. She is particularly concerned with topics related to social movements, critical theory, political participation and subjectivity, the psychology of morality and justice psychology, justice policies, gender studies, and utopian studies.
