Prior to joining the American University in Cairo as a master’s student in Middle East Studies, Ross worked as a political consultant and advisor, advocate for low-income individuals, and corporate consultant in the United States. His research is thematically concerned with the individual construction of dignity in relationship to the collective at times of tectonic change. He is currently conducting research the security implications of the Saudi Aramco IPO and the broader history of finance in the 20th century Middle East. He hopes to obtain a PhD upon completion of his work in Cairo and continue to contribute socially and politically. Until then, Ross is working as a volunteer English teacher for refugees in Egypt, contributing to The Cairo Review of Global Affairs, and advancing in the Arabic language.
