Shino Hateruma is currently a researcher at the Okinawa Institute of Law and Politics, Okinawa International University. Her research interests are US military presence overseas and regional security of the Asia-Pacific. She served as a researcher of the Regional Security Policy Division, in the Executive Office of the Governor, for the Okinawa Prefectural Government from 2013 to 2015, engaged in research related to US bases in Okinawa. Previously, she was a researcher at the Research Institute for Peace and Security, a Tokyo-based think tank. She participated in the Pacific Forum as a Non-Resident Fellow supported by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, and the 2014 TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program. She received a Ph.D. in international studies at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University in 2022.
