Tim Roth is a PhD candidate in African Studies at the University of Helsinki, specializing in Bantu languages, historical linguistics, and tense/aspect. He is also a linguistics consultant for the Uganda-Tanzania Branch of SIL International. He became a Sylff fellow in 2014 and received an SRA grant a year later. This funding allowed him to conduct fieldwork in Tanzania over a four- to five-week period split between October 2014 and June 2016. He is currently working on his dissertation, The Vká formative in Western Serengeti Bantu.
